Hi everyone,

Can you please confirm whether SDL Passolo Translator 2016 prevents users from storing translations in the SDL Studio Add-In?

I've been through several posts but nobody seems to reply this specific question. I remember that in 2011 I was able to do this but the 2016 version doesn't show me the "Send to translation add-in" option, despite me editing the settings file.

Can you help?

A client has sent me a Passolo project in the form of a .tbulic16 file. I currently have Trados Studio 2015 and have downloaded the free SDL Passolo Translator Edition 2015 to work with the SDL Passolo Team Edition, but I cannot open the .tbulic16 file because it was "saved with Passolo [IP removed] and only Translator Editions of the same version can open it."

Does anyone have a workaround?

I haven't been able to find an app on the TranslationZone site to fix this.

Just download the free Passolo Translator Edition 2016 from [url removed] . You can keep the previous version on your computer and use it when you need it.

I'm using Passolo 2016 and I have added a Studio TM (sdltm) for Fuzzy Matching, Concordances and Pre-Translation. The settings all well. For the first or two textlist items it works fine, so I get fuzzy matches from the passolo project itselfs and also fuzzy matches from SDL-TM, but at the next item an error message is shown in the Message window:

(I'm working on an german system, so the message is promted in german and my english translation could be different)
ERROR - Error while searching for fuzzy matches in TM [name of tm]. Info: The value is outside the expected range.

After that message, the TM is disabled in the Translation Helpers (Fuzzy, Concordance, Pre-Translation). I can enabled it again, but it works only for the next one or two items as before and the message is shown again and the TM is disabled.

So far I've tried, reindexing the TM and copied TM locally from network folder, nothing helped.

Does anyone know this problem?

Hi Diana,

in Passolo 2016 it is also possible to storing translations in the SDL-Studio Add-In. If you have added a Studio TM (Translation Helpers) click on Setup and make shure that the checkboxes "Enabled" and "Update" are checked.

Also check Options for Translation Window, especially the option "Send translation to Add-In automatically when setting a string to validated."
If if this option activated the Store Translation Window is shown automatically then a string is confirmed with CTRL+T. If not, you have to press CTRL+F10 to open the Window manually.

If the window still doesn't open, try CTRL+SHIFT+F10. Now it should work. (Check the option "Don't promt again"!)

No, I haven't ever seen this behavior. Does this happen always with the same source text entry or just after a while? Would be good to get the TM and the bundle to do some indeep testing.

After my trial ran out(where everything worked properly), I reinstalled my recently purchased copy of Passolo 2016 professional on a different computer and now I dont seem to have the .net parser to be able to work with resx files

did you ever figure out how to fix it?

Hello everyone,

I have a question about Passolo 2015. I have just translated a file included in one bundle. I'm now starting to translate a different bundle but I can see that many segments are the same or very similar to the ones I just finished translating. Two software platforms for a similar purpose so if the material won't be absolutely identical, it would still be useful to be able to retrieve the work I have just completed on the first bundle.

Is there a way to use my already translated material (like the import/export function of the TM in Trados) for consistency purposes without recurring to copy and paste?

I will suppose you have Passolo 2015 Translator Edition.

I use the "SDL Passolo TMX Export" add-in to export strings as a TM in TMX format. If you have Studio 2009-2015, you can create a Studio TM and import the TMX TM into it. In order to use the Studio TM for getting matches and fuzzies for your next translation job, you will have to use the "SDL Trados Studio" add-in, which sometimes becomes a tricky procedure.

There is another appproach which I consider to be more straight-forward, and specially useful if you don't have/don't want to use Studio: Export the strings as glossary and then use that glossary for the next translation.

One of our clients send us Passolo 2011 bundles and our translators are more often than not now running Windows 10 and they need to use Passolo 2011 Translator Edition. They need to be able to see in-context preview to ensure their translations are not truncated and fit in the context but here is one of our translators have to say:

"The dialogues that should be shown after pressing Ctrl+R are complete empty. Running in Win 7 compatibility mode doesn't solve the problem.

However, I discovered something. When I right-click on the dialogue panel, and select Exception Details, I receive the following error message:

Could not load file or assembly 'DevExpress.Utils.v15.1, Version= [IP removed] , Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b88d1754d700e49a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

So, it looks like there is something missing from my system. I've tried to reinstall this dll, but I must be something wrong, since I can't register the dll."

Could you please assist?

Hello,

SDL Passolo is using SDL Trados Studio components to interface with TMs. The installation path of Studio is searched in the Windows registry using a GUID. Unfortunately this GUID is changing with newer SRs in Studio. So older Passolo licenses will not find newer Studio SRs which can be solved with the described work-around.
